Not Happy, Sleepy or even Sneezy

I managed to finish off that stand of Dwarf blades this week. The two at the back are 1980s Citadel, as are the ones left and right but I have no idea what make the one in the middle is. It is just a Dwarf holding a shield - no weapons ready. To spruce him up a bit I grabbed one of Alex's WH40K stickers but had a bit of an accident putting it on. However, I think the damage to the sticker gives it a bit of character.

I also put a bit more paint on some Warlord Roman Auxiliary archers and a bit more onto another statue, albeit a fallen one this time. Either of these should be ready for next week's blog entry.

Harboth's Boys back on the warpath

I managed to get another stand of HotT Harboth's Black Mountain Boys completed this week. This brings the total to 3 stands of blades for the orcs now. I still have harboth himself to paint up with his standard bearer. Unfortunately I didn't get the musician when it was out as I only bought two boxes at the time - perhaps a trip to eBay will be needed to remedy that?

I still have tons to do to complete an orc army for HotT but my dwarf army draws ever closer to completion. I have another stand of Dwarf Blades on the paint station which would bring my army total to 16AP when completed - just another 8 points to go.
Alongside the dwarfs there is another LotR statue nearly completed and some Roman Auxiliaries just started. I still have a little paint dabbed on those 2000AD Judges, so they will be completed soon too. I'm a bit behind schedule with my resolution for painting but should catch up again soon.

Games Workshop at the local library

Games Workshop has pulled a pretty good publicity stunt at our local libraries (Bexleyheath's Central Library and Erith Library). They started off with a modelling and painting workshop on the 9th of January but we missed that meeting. However, we managed to pick up a leaflet advertising gaming evenings for the next few months.

Unfortunately it is on too early for me to attend the adult session at Erith library but Alex was able to pop to the Central Library for the 10-18 year old session on Thursday (yesterday) evening for his first ever game of Warhammer 40K with the Bexley Battle Gamers.

He did very well in his first ever game - he played as Space Marines versus Necrons and wound up drawing his game against an older and more experienced gamer. He really enjoyed himself and made a few new friends to boot. He is looking forward to the next meeting.

Long lost realms

Over the holidays I took stock of what needs to be done this year. I was going to concentrate on getting my old RPG miniatures painted first but I couldn't resist getting this Lord of the Rings statue sorted first. I have the LotR Ruins set of sprues which contains 4 or 5 statues and columns and a few bits of ruined building. The statues are rather nice, so I decided to paint one up and see how it went. I am very pleased with the results...

I also managed to start on/continue with a couple more HotT stands, one of dwarfs and one of orcs. These should be finished over the next week or two unless other things catch my eye and take my fancy first.

Gaming wise, my new pbm game is coming along nicely and I am half way through pre-rolling some adventurers for an up and coming D&D campaign.

Happy New Year

Now that the festivities are over and normality is due to resume (back to work tomorrow), I thought I'd take stock of my achievements from last year and make a few resolutions for this year.

Last year saw me paint 234 miniatures, but that was only from Salute onwards. I will have an extra three months to paint in this year so, hopefully, my painted tally will rise. I have decided to dispense with the models accrued tally as last year saw me accrue more than I painted, Ho Hum. This year I will not purchase as many minis as last year, but that's not to say I won't accrue any at all. So, Resolution 1 is to paint more than 312 minis (pro-rated 234 over 9 months) this coming year.

Gaming wise, this year was a little sparse. I managed a couple of participation games at the shows I attended and if it wasn't for the pbm RPG Tavern Knights of Legend keeping me busy then I'd have played a lot less. This year I will play a lot more as I now have a stack of painted minis to use. I have ideas for the first few scenarios using the minis and some ideas for pbm games - a strategy game and a RPG that will be linked by being in the same universe. Resolution 2 is to play more than 2 participation games at shows and play in/referee more pbm and tabletop actions with my normal gang of gaming buddies than the year just gone.

I am still feeling my way with this blog at the moment. I am still not sure whether to only post when I have something to show (minis, game reports etc) or whether to put all my gaming thoughts online too. I'll probably dabble in a bit of both for now, just to keep the blog ticking over.

Anyway, thanks for reading the blog and passing comments over 2009. I wish you all a very happy and prosperous 2010.
